Prenatal and Pediatric

Chiropractic care for children is a solid foundation for wellness and is 100% safe! Adjustments are gentle and tailored to fit the patient's age, size, and needs. Throughout pregnancy, birth, and childhood, chiropractic will help your family live a life of optimal health and well-being.

A question we hear often is, “at what age do I bring my baby/child in to get their spine and nervous system checked?”

The very first spinal misalignment (vertebral subluxation) in a person’s life often occurs during the birthing process. DID YOU KNOW… almost half of all births in the country are now planned and require some form of intervention to “extract” the baby? The force that is applied to the head and neck to pull and turn the baby in order to get the shoulders through the birthing canal puts stress on the upper cervical spine and nervous system - the baby enters the world seemingly healthy but with his/her first subluxation.

Some mothers decide to bring their baby in to get checked by Dr. Erica or Dr. Chris on their way home from the hospital. It is ultimately whatever a new mother feels comfortable doing and we are always grateful to be trusted with a precious new born.

Your child’s spine is most vulnerable to stress and should be routinely checked by a chiropractor for prevention and early detection of vertebral subluxations during the following times:

  • After birth
  • Responding to sound
  • Responding to visual stimuli
  • Holds head up
  • Sits up
  • Rolls from tummy to back, vice-versa
  • Cross crawl
  • Stand without help
  • Walk without help

Pediatric Chiropractic is rapidly becoming more widespread and an accepted choice of wellness care. Children and adolescents deal with a variety of stressors in today's world

  • falls
  • contact sports or sports-related injuries
  • repetitive video game play
  • repetitive reading
  • heavy backpacks
  • poor posture
  • improper sleeping
  • poor diet
  • chemical stressors - medications, cleaners, chemicals, etc.
  • emotional stress - home and school

At Life Aligned Chiropractic we strive to provide an environment that the entire family is comfortable in. Whether it is adjusting on the table, the floor, a pillow or playing a little football with Dr. Chris after their adjustment, the kiddos in our practice are sure to feel loved and empowered.

A woman’s pregnant body is beautiful, resilient and ever changing. It is important for her body to be strong, healthy and able to adapt. At Life Aligned Chiropractic we believe a mother has an innate intelligence or “mom intuition” of what is best for her body and her growing baby. We aim to protect that maternal instinct and allow her life force to flow freely with a healthy nervous system and proper functioning pelvis and spine.

Prenatal Chiropractic care is important throughout all stages of pregnancy. Chiropractic adjustments helps promote optimal function of the nervous system and pelvic alignment, which aids in fetal development and to accommodate mom’s growing belly and postural changes. There are a growing number of research studies to support use of Chiropractic to aid in dealing with common pregnancy related issues, such as:

  • Low/mid back pain
  • Headaches
  • Muscle aches
  • Morning sickness
  • Carpal tunnel pain
  • Sciatica
  • Removing tension in the ligaments supporting the uterus
  • Supporting a healthier, easier birthing and labor process.

Life Aligned Chiropractic has specially designed adjusting tables and pillows to accommodate for a mother’s growing belly. We also have a wide array of health care providers, midwives, doulas and other prenatal services we can refer expecting parents to in order to have a cohesive birth plan and supportive team.

Chiropractic and pregnancy article from

The late Larry Webster, D.C., Founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association(ICPA), developed a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment which enables chiropractors to establish balance in the pregnant woman’s pelvis and reduce undue stress to her uterus and supporting ligaments.

This balanced state in the pelvis has been clinically shown to allow for optimal fetal positioning. The technique is known as the Webster Technique. It is considered normal by some for a baby to present breech until the third trimester. Most birth practitioners are not concerned with breech presentations until a patient is 37 weeks along. Approximately 4% of all pregnancies result in a breech presentation.

The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics reported in the July/August 2002 issue an 82% success rate of babies turning vertex when doctors of chiropractic used the Webster Technique.

Further, the results from the study suggest it may be beneficial to perform the Webster Technique, as soon as the 8th month of pregnancy, when a woman has a breech presentation.

Currently, the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) recommends women receive chiropractic care throughout pregnancy to establish pelvic balance and optimize the room a baby has for development throughout pregnancy.

With a balanced pelvis, babies have a greater chance of moving into the correct position for birth, and the crisis and worry associated with breech and posterior presentations may be avoided altogether.

Optimal baby positioning at the time of birth also eliminates the potential for dystocia (difficult labor) and, therefore, results in easier and safer deliveries for both the mother and baby
