At Life Aligned Chiropractic, both Dr. Chris Hargrave and Dr. Erica Hargrave have had years of experience and post graduate training to prepare themselves to treat each patient with the most accurate, comfortable and thorough care possible. Each patient is treated uniquely in our office. After a thorough new patient exam including any orthopedic and neurologic tests that are indicated, the docs will discuss exactly how they plan to treat each patient and the benefits behind why certain techniques may be more beneficial for their health and wellness. Some patients are adjusted with low force techniques only (Activator and drop tables), while other patients are a mixture of Diversified manual adjustments, low force adjustments and manual therapies. We create care plans that are specifically fit to address the individual and their lifestyle. The ultimate goal at Life Aligned Chiropractic is for each patient, young and old, to feel truly heard and comfortable with their care.
This is a widely used type of chiropractic adjustment that is the foundation technique taught in almost every Chiropractic institution. Diversified is the most commonly used of all chiropractic techniques and is the one probably most familiar to patients. The Diversified adjustment entails a high velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) thrust delivered by hand to the spine or other joints of the body. This usually results in a cavitation of a joint (quick, shallow thrusts that cause the “popping” noise often associated with a chiropractic adjustment). Diversified Technique can be used to treat many of the joints in the body. Dr. Chris and Dr. Erica both practice Diversified adjusting at Life Aligned Chiropractic.
This is a hand-held, spring-loaded instrument-based adjustment protocol. Instead of the adjusting forces being delivered by hand, force is generated with the small appliance that delivers a lighter, but quicker, thrust than can be delivered by hand. In our office, Activator is most often used as a selective method for patients who may not desire manual adjustments or where manual adjustment may be contraindicated. The Docs see great results with this low force method of adjusting on all types of patients.
SOT- Sacro-Occipital Technique
Like other chiropractic techniques, SOT seeks to correct abnormalities in the spine that produce common complaints seen at Life Aligned Chiropractic. The Sacro-Occipital Technique seeks to improve the overall transmission of nerve impulses from the brain down the spine and to other areas of the body. This lower force technique ranges from treatment of a patient laying prone (face down) or supine (face up) and involves triangle shaped, foam padded wedges to help balance out pelvic misalignments. As the name sacro-occipital implies, SOT treatment focuses on both ends of the spine, because they are so interrelated. By correcting imbalances both in the skull and in the pelvis, communication is improved along the entire spinal column.
Also known as the Thompson technique, the “drop” approach uses a special chiropractic table. At Life Aligned Chiropractic we have an adjusting table that has segments that can be lifted up and then dropped when a thrust is applied by the docs. The drop allows gravity to assist and work in combination with the manual adjustment, and all of this provides a lighter adjustment when a “twisting” type adjustment is contraindicated or simply for the comfort of the patient and the doctors. When the chiropractor applies a gentle thrust to the area needing adjustment, the table releases and drops down, causing that segment of the body to fall too.
Not only are our docs proficient in adjusting the joints of the spine, but they can also treat extremities. Shoulder pain, wrist pain, elbow pain, as well as knee and ankle pain are all common issues seen at Life Aligned Chiropractic. Between manual, diversified adjusting and instrument assisted adjusting we see great results in decreasing pain and increasing proper function and mobility in these parts of the body. Dr. Chris commonly sees extremity complaints among athletes of all ages and competition level. His background with the American Chiropractic Association- Sport’s Council has allowed him to study many different structural and functional modalities and adjustments to extremities.
